PARANOIA- trainee
Deconstructed logbook
If you are a trainee/ registrar/ fellow and have not previously enrolled, please register and you will shortly be sent your log in details. Then please proceed to enter your cases.

PARANOIA-trainee, is a logbook of the deconstructed pancreatoduodenectomy. Each stage is broken down and graded so that you get a score for each stage and an overall score of how much/ well you have done for that case. As you add more cases, you will be able to log your progress. You can also add the technique used and whether you get a POPF to build your CUSUM chart.

Next year, we will release a breakdown of the results to show what the training opportunities are across the world. In the UK this will be broken down by deanery and timed around the annual review for registrars in training. Understanding performance in the context of opportunity is important particularly for trainees at their annual review. As PARANOIA-trainee becomes more established, we hope to shed more transparency over where optimal training opportunities lie. Internationally, this could help inform your decision about specific fellowships. We hope to build on this area and establish a HPB trainee/ registrar/ fellow community.

Who can use the logbook?
Anyone who is not a consultant/ attending. You don't have to be in a training programme, you need to be a higher surgical registrar who is performing parts or all of the pancreatoduodenectomy.

Which cases should I log in the PD?
If you log all of your cases, even if you start off observing, it will help you see the gradual trend of your progression.

Can I participate with the optional studies on the main PARANOIA registry?
Yes, if your consultants are registered and they give you access to their account.
Register using this link: https://bistc.redcap.bham.ac.uk/surveys/?s=Y38MX4CCPN4NT9EH

Will I get authorship on publications?
Yes. Any active users will be given collaborative authorship under 'PARANOIA Study Group', where you name will be Pubmed citable.

What is the international survey of variation and equality?
This survey contains questions of a very sensitive nature across all potential areas of prejudice (e.g. ethnicity, socioeconomic background, sexuality). Please be reassured that this data is collected anonymously and is not linked to your account. We would appreciate your honesty over this difficult topic and hope that we can work together to help break down stereotypes and barriers in training. Thank you.

Can I see what the survey of variation looks like before I fill it in?
Yes. Please see the 'Protocol and related documents' section, then the drop-down page related registrar/ trainees/ fellow.
